There was some big push along these lines after hurricane Katrina; the governing body are very US centric. There was a family I remember who had stacks of canned goods prepared for the great tribulation....back in the 1960s. Their children are in their 60s now, mum and dad long dead.

I did #1 for a while and it mashed my brain. I couldn't live with it.

I'm doing #2 now and it's even harder on a personal level but at least my children aren't being exposed to it.

You're damned either way but I feel where children are involved, #2 is the only choice I could love with personally.

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs

thw wts likes to play games with their statistics.

one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?

if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

Montreal ICSA Conference - I will be a speaker

yup it's official.

i will be a speaker at the international cultic studies association's confernece in montreal canada july 5-7 2012 you may find me asking for some specific information over the next couple of months like this one suicide - how many do you know within the jws.. the focus of my lecture will be on the invisible victims, such as those who are dfed, ubms (unbelieving mates), children raised in a home where one parent is a jw and the other isn't , people who get involved with jws only to find too late how much of a problem it will be in the relationship and the impact on these family members.

issues of suicide, depression, relationship breakdown and who knows what else i will find.. i do have to put limits on it.

Do yourself a favour and set a time limit now. A cut off date when you will leave regardless. I stayed too long trying to help people, caused myself more pain and stress and they shun me now anyway.
